Akashi Middle School and High School Music Club has been performed a march for more than 80 years. The march was called simply March or School Grounds March at first, then after adding text for chorus in 1947, it has been also called Delights in Youth. For the opening theme do, so, la, do, members of the club called it Dosso with affection.
Though it has been believed that Dosso performed only in Akashi, it is now known the march had been performed frequently by Seiryo High School Band taking advantage of members of the club's removal to Seiryo High School in eary 1950's. Oppotunities of performance has been ceased for a long time, music scheets of Dosso was sent upon request of the members in those days to Seiryo High School in the end of 2012 and revied in February 2013 after 50 years absence.
This beloved march was edited by Masato Arinaga (1905-1966), newly appointed English teacher of Akashi Middle School and the coach of its Music Club in 1929. He combined two music, one in C major for introduction of the march and one in F major for trio, from band music sheets imported from USA or another. Someone said the melodies were quoted from songs. The original source has never been specified before. Then I happened to think to ask the foreign visitors of this Dennis Brain website to liten and give me any hints of the roots of the march.
I think it strange this page has no concern with Dennis Brain. But please push the start button the above and listen the music. Can you help me? Do you know the similar melody of the march? If you have any information, please send an email to Yukihiro Okitsu (), webmaster of An enthusiasm for Dennis Brain and also a member of Akashi High School OB Band.
