The RAF Orchstra and Band left for their tour, a goodwill trip arranged as an exchange with the Band of the US Army Air Force, late in 1944. For the RAF, the prospect of visiting some of the more famous cities in the USA coupled with the chance to enjoy ration-free food and drink was attractive, to say the least.
